The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain from all formats, with immediate effect.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has also been dropped from the side ahead of Australia tour and has been asked by the PCB to regain form in domestic cricket before, inorder to be a part of the side in the future.
According to sources, top-order batsman Azhar Ali is set to take over Pakistan’s Test reigns with wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan to serve as his deputy.
Board officials are also trying to convince prolific top-order batsman Babar Azam, with regards to taking charge of the side in the limited-overs formats. A meeting is also scheduled to take place, tomorrow, between the two parties on the same issue.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah ul Haq was reportedly unhappy with Sarfaraz captaincy and had already communicated his reservations PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan. The former Pakistan captain had made it clear to the PCB that Sarfaraz should not continue as the captain of the national team.
