It is known that things tend to change quickly in Pakistan cricket, but the latest development coming out from the PCB is so clear.
After three years, a week before Pakistan is touring Australia for three T20Is and two Test series, Sarfaraz was asked to give up the captaincy on Thursday. He refused, forcing the PCB’s hand. The Test replacement? Azhar, of course.
Azhar called the appointment a “huge honour”, As Test cricket the sport’s “best format”, saying he wil do his best.
He said. “It is an opportunity for me to create a legacy. The amount of cricket I have played for Pakistan, coming 4-5 years are very important for me as a captain.
“Secondly, I’d like to thank Sarfaraz. The way he has led the side, and he’s provided Pakistan are excellent. I spoke to him after today’s announcement and I support him.”
